Description
DATA SCOPE
This standard covers UAS geographical zones data defined in Article 15 of the Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/947 as a portion of airspace established by the competent authority that facilitates, restricts or excludes UAS operations in order to address risks pertaining to safety, privacy, protection of personal data, security or the environment, arising from UAS operations.
U-space airspaces are a special case of UAS geographical zones. They include a specific set of data to provide listed in Article 5.1 of the Implementing regulation (EU) 2021/664 as part of the Common Information Services:
1. horizontal and vertical limits of the U-space airspace,
2. any adjacent U-space airspace(s),
3. static and dynamic airspace restrictions defined by the relevant authorities and permanently or temporarily limiting the volume of airspace within the U-space airspace where UAS operations can take place,
4. UAS geographical zones relevant to the U-space airspace and published by Member States in accordance with (EU) 2019/947,
5. the following requirements:
- a. the UAS capabilities and performance requirements,
- b. the U-space services performance requirements,
- c. the applicable operational conditions and airspace constraints (associated to U-space airspaces).
Paragraph e) includes operational conditions and airspace constraints, which are attributes related to geographical data. It also includes capabilities, performance and service requirements which are actual requirements but may also constitute a set of criteria to be met to enter the U-space airspace (similar in nature to RNP-xx criteria for some airspaces or routes). All the data listed above are considered to be in the scope of this document.
NOTE: Whilst in scope, data corresponding to requirements in Paragraph e) are not yet mature and standardized so that specific data model implementation can be made. Yet, the standard includes mechanisms allowing extensions such as extended properties in the data model.
Finally, article 5.2 of (EU) 2021/664 refers to “dynamic airspace reconfiguration” defined as the temporary modification of the U-space airspace in order to accommodate short-term changes in manned traffic demand, by adjusting the geographical limits of that U-space airspace. Those data are also covered in this standard.
Out of scope data
Other U-space-relevant data such as traffic information (Article 5.2) or Network identification (Article 8) are considered out of the scope of this standard because they are already covered in other documents.
Additional use cases
Some providers might find that additional data types, such as but not limited to obstacle data, could benefit from the data model, format, and service presented in this standard. In such case, data providers may use this standard for that additional purpose.
