Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The aviation industry is witnessing a revolution that will see integration of more electricity to power the vehicles. This includes drones, VTOL (Vertical Take-Off Landing), STOL (Short Take Off Landing), commuter and large aircrafts. A factor leading this revolution is environmental constraints (in order to lower the emissions): studies into the electrification of aircraft propulsion revealed the potential of reducing carbon footprint by 50% between 2005 and 2050 ? supporting ACARE goals.

This step-change in technology/architectures will require new ways of collaborating among airframers, engine manufacturers and system suppliers - and addressing the regulatory framework and means of compliance for these new architectures.

The hybrid electric propulsion is the revolution of the 2020s and all these technological challenges will bring new technologies in aeronautic industry. These technologies will require standards in order to help Europe Industry to support certification and maintain a high level of safety.

The EUROCAE working group 113 has mapped all the potential architectures and then identified themes/technologies that are not covered (or not enough) in term of standards.

This report shall help EUROCAE TAC to classify all these new requests and decide the way forward (road map, work plan).

In particular, it has been established the most possible exhaustive list of standardization needs for Hybrid Electric Propulsion and Full Electric Propulsion on short-term schedule:
- Existing applicable standards
- Existing standards with evolution needs
- New standardization needs

The priority of standardization needs in relation with certification needs (current Projects with early Entry Into service date) and certification rules evolution (EASA SC EHPS) has been proposed also to help way forward decision.
